Hey guys! Katie here. The three other interns and I arrived in Pisac on Monday. Right away we had a hearty lunch at el mercado then took some downtime to unpack, settle in and nap after a long night of travel. We took a quick walking tour of Pisac then had dinner at a local favorite, El Sabor. We had an early night in to rest up for a full day on Tuesday.

Tuesday started with breakfast at the market to fuel up before our morning hike/orientation session on the mountain. We covered lots of important info and enjoyed stellar views of local mountains and the town. After, Sierra and I walked around the plaza, checking out stalls selling blankets, art, and other souvenirs. We learned to be wary of women offering you the chance to hold a baby goat—they expect you to pay.

Later, we had our first run, just half an hour to ease into the altitude. We ran up-river on a dirt road. To cool down, we learned a new stretching routine “Ethios” from Tyler then enjoyed dinner at La Polleria.  I was a bit concerned to find chicken liver and a foot in my soup, but ate the liver nonetheless. At night we did some journaling, talked about our first impressions and hung out in Ty and Mariana’s heated apartment before hitting the hay.

Today (Wednesday) Sierra and I started our morning with yoga in the courtyard. Then the group went to Sofi’s grocery and/or the market for breakfast and I tried coca tea for the first time! We had a Spanish lesson and another easy run (+ strides) this afternoon. Game night on tap for the evening. Will update again Saturday!

Guinea pig (aka cuy) stuffed animals at the plaza. Hopefully we can try cuy soon–yum!
