Strive Trips was founded on the idea of creating an enriching, meaningful summer experience for student athletes without them having to sacrifice a summer of athletic training.  We put student safety above all else in our programs and our staffing choices reflect our values.  A group leader position with Strive requires a commitment to excellence and professionalism, as well as the ability to function as part of a close-knit team.

Around-the-Table

Responsible for the supervision, safety, and overall well-being of a group of 6-18 high school student athletes.  You will be in charge of the entire group of students for the duration of the program (3 weeks) and will be expected to be available to your students 24 hours/day, if needed.  You will work in close proximity with 1-2 other group leaders in a collaborative environment and will meet with your co-leaders on a daily basis to discuss the daily schedule and program well-being.

Daily responsibilities will include but are not limited to: putting together a daily schedule with a focus on safety, service, training and fun, checking in with students frequently to address concerns and see how they are feeling about the program, treating each participant in a consistent and fair manner, putting together programming for team building activities, coordinating with the Intern Group Leader regarding Strive talks, training sessions, etc, daily budgeting and accounting tasks and many others.

Group leaders will have their international flights covered plus all on-the-ground expenses for the duration of the program.  In addition, each group leader will receive a stipend (dependent on experience) for each session worked.

Required Qualifications

  • Travel or living experience in the region you are applying. (Preference will be given to those applicants who have more than 6 months experience in their region of choice)
  • 2-3 yrs Group Leadership experience with 14-18 year olds
  • Experience working as part of a team
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification (Can be obtained after accepting employment)
  • Ability to run 3-7 miles per day at high altitude

  • College degree (Preference will be given to those applicants who have more experience but we encourage all qualified applicants to apply)

Assistant Group Leaders roles and responsibilities on a daily basis will be very similar to the Head Group Leader.  The main difference is that the Head Group Leader will have final decision making responsibility regarding scheduling, programming and activities.  The Assistant Group Leader will be expected to offer suggestions and ideas that will make the program better and to interact with our high school students and ensure they enjoy a safe, healthy and fun experience.

As the Intern Group Leader you will be responsible for the supervision and well-being of a group of 8-10 college-aged interns.  You will be a resource of knowledge as well as a steady, positive role model for our interns.  You will be expected to be available 24/7 for the duration of the program and be a part of the daily planning and programming.  IGL’s should expect to be busy from sunrise till bedtime.  You will be called upon to lead programming groups which could cover topics such as community service, athletic training, team-building activities and others.  IGL’s will work in conjunction with the High School group leaders while both groups are in country and should expect to be a part of daily briefings for both groups as well as instrumental in group cohesion and integration during the time the two programs overlap.

IGL’s primary role is to be a guiding, steady hand for our interns and to slowly add duties and responsibilities to each individual as they progress through the program.  Interns should slowly become more involved throughout the program and should be heavily involved in the daily ins and outs of the programs by the end of their 8 weeks in country.  It is the IGL’s responsibilty to provide a safe, structured environment for our interns to learn, grow and develop as adults and leaders.

IGL’s will have their international flights, room/board and activities covered while in country and running the program along with a stipend for their time in country.

    • Experience working with university aged students
    • Experience living/traveling in the region for which you are applying
    • Experience leading/being a part of a group
    • Spanish Language Ability for Peru

These positions are extremely flexible and compensation depends entirely on your experience level, commitment to the program, and what you have to offer. In the past, volunteer assistants have been anywhere from completely unpaid to having room/board/travel covered.
