We’ve been in Iten a week and have spent some great time with the students of Kamariny. Although it’s only been a week, we hear kids call ‘Howareyou Maddie!’ or ‘Howareyou Noah!’ whenever we run or walk down the hilly red dirt roads of Iten.

We spent the past week dividing up our time between teaching English and Math to standard 5, 7 and 8 students as well as leading P.E. to standard 4. We’re also able to play with all the students on their break times on the school fields, which happen to overlook Kenyan elites working out on the Kamariny dirt track (this past week we spotted Asbel Kiprop and Florence Kiplagat). It’s been a ton of fun so far and we celebrated the week of teaching with a quiz game on Friday involving a ball throw and dividing each glass into teams to compete.

In the afternoons we’ve been able to get involved in a couple different projects with Kamariny students. We spent a few afternoons at Lornah Kiplagat’s new all-weather track in Iten helping teach students block starts, hurdles, high jump and long jump. We also spent Friday afternoon going down to the legendary Kamariny stadium in Iten (across the road from the school) to help pick up trash with students after school. We’re already excited about next week classes and the other service projects we’ll be getting involved in!
